About Smocking Plates Studio
Smocking Plates Studio publishes printable smocking plates: charts of cable, wave, trellis and honeycomb stitches drawn on a grid of pleats and rows, with pleat counts and floss estimates worked out for you.
One engine for everything
The free Plate Designer, the fifteen free plates and the ten collections all come from the same calculation. Pleat count, raw fabric width and floss are computed from the chart and your measurements, not copied from averages.
What the plates are
The charts are drawings of the stitching, not photographs of finished garments. Thread, fabric, tension and your own hand change how a real piece turns out, so treat each plate as a plan and test on a scrap first.

How a plate is made
Each plate starts as a list of rows: a stitch, a color and a position on the pleater grid. The engine turns that list into an SVG chart, a print ready PDF, a pleat table for chest sizes 18 to 28 inches, a floss estimate and numbered instructions. Because the same list drives everything, the chart, the table and the text never disagree.
